The quintessential luxury home department store that is singularly 100 percent Belgian, will be making its grand debut at 55 Gansevoort Street in the heart of the elegant Meatpacking District in New York City. Once known as the center for slaughterhouses, the area is today considered the most fashionable in New York where elegant shops, galleries, boutique hotels, and fine restaurants line the classic cobblestone streets. With the addition of the famous High Line, the Standard Hotel, as well as the future home for the Whitney Museum of Art, the ultra high-end interior design store named House of Houses will carry iconic, luxury brands that are representative of the excellence of Belgian craftsmanship and style. Dedicated to Belgian luxurious interior spaces and goods of all kinds to be shared with a discriminating American clientele.
The upper three floors will contain exquisitely staged interior design showrooms in an apartment style setting giving customers the opportunity to view furniture and objects in a real life setting. Located in the Meatpacking District, House of Houses will be just steps away from the legendary designer boutique, Diane Von Furstenberg, who is herself the Godmother of the concept and her iconic vision serves as an inspiration. The store will truly capture the spirit of Belgian creativity and its timeless expertise in all things luxury.
House of Houses will include a team of knowledgeable and experienced in-house interior architects and designers who will offer individual consultations and bespoke services for private residences, new real estate projects, hotels, or upscale condominium projects. Working with the latest state of the art technologies and an emphasis on green energies and elegant solutions, each client can expect a personalized service tailored to fit his or her own precise requirements.
Under the leadership of Flemish Chef Kenny Bernaerts, the fifth floor and roof top terrace will be dedicated to an outstanding restaurant featuring the best of Belgian cuisine. Bernaerts, who trained for years with Michelin starred chefs including Gordon Ramsey and Michel Roux in London and with Yves Mattagne in Brussels, will bring his distinguished talent to the House of Houses restaurant to make this a new must-stop food destination. The restaurant will seat 100 people and will have a private, VIP area, and cocktail bar, along with a unique, gastronomic menu to make your journey to Belgium complete.
Taking up approximately 250m2 in the basement level of the building, the “Studio” will be devoted exclusively to exhibitions showcasing the exceptional creative talent in the fields of fashion, design, photography, visual art, and architecture. Each month a new Belgian designer, artist, fashion designer or high-end brand will be invited to present a selection of their latest work in the store giving New Yorkers an exclusive opportunity to see first hand the latest trends and styles. The Belgian art scene has made its mark internationally, from Miami Basel to the Venice Biennial, emphasized by the prestigious Art Brussels art fair. Throughout the year the gallery will host art openings and events highlighting the vibrant cultural scene happening in Belgium today. As a compliment to the in-house design services, House of Houses will also offer clients personalized art consultation.
